Description
San Rocco, the Saint Protector Against the Plague
The Chiesetta di San Rocco in Darè is a small place of worship dedicated to Saint Roch, the French pilgrim saint invoked as protector against plague and epidemics. Small churches dedicated to Saint Roch are extremely common throughout the Alpine arc: they were often built on the edges of villages, along roads, as acts of devotion and community protection.
This small but significant place of worship testifies to the deep faith of Val Rendena communities, where even the smallest hamlets created sacred spaces of great spiritual intensity. The valley preserves a religious-artistic heritage ranging from the medieval frescoes of the Baschenis to Renaissance sacred architecture.
