San Bartolomeo in the Hamlet of Larzana

The Church of San Bartolomeo stands in the hamlet of Larzana, a small settlement in the municipality of Darè in Val Rendena. Dedicated to the apostle Bartholomew, patron of butchers and tanners, the church is the spiritual focal point for this small mountain community, safeguarding the religious identity of the hamlet.

The building, with its rural Alpine architecture, fits into the landscape of Val Rendena hamlets where every settlement, however small, has always maintained its own place of worship. Val Rendena, evangelised in the 4th century by Saint Vigilius, boasts a heritage of churches often adorned with frescoes by the Baschenis painters, the famous Bergamo family active in the Trentino valleys between the 15th and 16th centuries.
