Description
San Zeno, the Veronese Saint Venerated in Pelugo
The Church of San Zeno in Pelugo is dedicated to Saint Zeno of Verona, one of the most venerated saints in northern Italy, whose cult spread widely through the Trentino valleys. The church, with its Trentino-Lombard architecture, is the main place of worship in the village and guards the community's religious memory.
Pelugo, in the middle of Val Rendena, is a village of ancient tradition where the Christian faith, brought in the 4th century by Saint Vigilius, shaped the landscape with churches, chapels, and sacred signs. The valley is particularly famous for the fresco cycles by the Baschenis painters, the Bergamo family of artists who between the 15th and 16th centuries decorated dozens of churches with sacred scenes and the celebrated Dance of Death.
