Description
The Small Votive Chapel of Baltarin
The Cappella del Baltarin in Pelugo is a small votive chapel taking its name from the locality or family to which it is linked. These small sacred buildings, scattered along the roads and paths of Val Rendena, represent one of the most genuine expressions of Alpine popular religiosity — tangible signs of the daily faith of mountain communities.
Pelugo, a village in middle Val Rendena, is rich in history and religious tradition. The chapel sits in a territory where sacred art reached heights of excellence through the Baschenis painters, the family of itinerant Bergamo artists who decorated numerous valley churches with their frescoes between the 15th and 16th centuries.
