Description
The Ancient Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, Witness of Centuries
The old Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate in Carisolo is one of the village's oldest sacred buildings, dedicated to the Egyptian hermit saint, protector of domestic animals and patron against skin diseases. The designation "vecchia" (old) distinguishes it from the newer church, underlining its venerable antiquity in Val Rendena's religious landscape.
The building, with its essential local stone architecture, may preserve traces of painted decorations linked to the tradition of the Baschenis, the itinerant Bergamo painters who between the 15th and 16th centuries frescoed dozens of churches in the Trentino valleys with sacred scenes and the celebrated Dance of Death.
