The Soldier Saints Protecting the Rendena Community

The Church of San Fabiano and San Sebastiano in Porte di Rendena is dedicated to the two martyr saints particularly venerated in Alpine communities as protectors against plagues. Saint Fabian, a 3rd-century pope, and Saint Sebastian, the Roman soldier pierced by arrows, are often paired in the dedication of Trentino churches, symbols of courage and faith in the face of persecution.

The church, with its Trentino-Lombard architecture, is the religious centre of the Porte di Rendena community. The sacred heritage of Val Rendena, enriched over the centuries by the frescoes of the Baschenis and the artistic tradition of Trentino workshops, finds in this church another expression of devotion and beauty.
